Every year, over 150,000 American adults suffer ring avulsion, which is just as awful as it sounds. Without getting too graphic, it’s when a metallic ring gets snagged and tears the skin underneath. The skin is the finger’s strongest tissue, so once it tears, everything underneath gets ripped apart, down to the bone. Sometimes, ring avulsion can cause complete separation of the finger. Even when it doesn’t, it usually ends in amputation, because the blood vessels and nerves are completely compromised.

When my wife, Paola, nearly lost her finger to a damaged wedding ring, we began searching for a way to eliminate the risk of being degloved by our own jewelry. As we read, we discovered other ways that metal jewelry can be an issue. Many companies don’t allow it, because of the risk of injury, and it increases your chances of being targeted for theft while traveling. We also found several alternative designs, but none that felt right for our tastes and active lifestyles.

We eventually decided to create the ultimate silicone rings designs ourselves. Countless hours went into designing a line that was simultaneously durable, comfortable and stylish. When naming our brand, we searched for a powerful statement that conveyed the intent of our efforts. We turned to the language of Machu Picchu. In the Incan language, Quechua, KUSI (pronounced KOO-see) means “joy and happiness”. That’s what we want to share with you by providing a safe and attractive alternative to a dangerous common practice.

Now, we’re happy to introduce to you our slender KUSI Silicone Ring collection for the active man or woman. Fitness enthusiasts, professionals, travelers, gym rats and trendsetters will love these thin and flexible, but also strong and stylish rings. Not only will they keep you safe from injury during your heavy activity, but they’re also an affordable alternative to precious metal wedding bands. Use as your primary ring or swap out when you’re traveling or engaging in risky activities, like handling gym equipment.

In the event of a snag that would ordinarily cause ring avulsion, Kusi rings are designed to stretch and tear, so you lose the ring, instead of your finger. Embrace life to the fullest and stay active without worrying about this insane, but common, injury happening to you or your loved ones. Find your KUSI!

With Love,

Charles & Paola 🙂
